An application for a fast food restaurant to serve 24 hours a day will be heard today.

Burger King in Priory Retail Park, Colliers Wood has applied for a 24-hour drive-thru licence, though the restaurant would still close at 11pm.

The Metropolitan Police in Merton oppose the application due to crime and disorder and public nuisance concerns.

Police Sergeant Peter Sparham, in a letter to Merton Council’s Licensing Department, said: "There is some merit in the availability of food to people who have been drinkling as well as night workers, however this is far outweighed by the risks of allowing later hours."

If the licence is granted, he asks that a CCTV system is maintained and operated at all times when the premises are open to the public.

Merton licensing sub committee will meet at 10am today (Friday, May 10) to discuss the application.
