Those who work in Whitehall will be able to enjoy a pint of Croydon ale in Parliament.

Victoria Barlow, 40 and Duncan Woodhead, 37, of Sutton, own the Clarence and Fredericks Brewing Co which is based in Neville Road, Selhurst.

The duo, who started selling their ale in October 2012, had four casks of their Golden Ale on sale in the Strangers Bar in Parliament this week.

Croydon North MP Steve Reed championed the couple’s beer when he was running for election last year.

Mr Reed had to approach the bar manager and find a week when there was a slot to sell beer from his constituency.

It is a good week for the couple’s beer to be showcased with Parliament set to be busy for a variety of events, which included the Queen's Speech on Wednesday.

They first first launched the Clarence and Fredericks Brewing Co after creating a range of beers in a nano brewery in the kitchen of their Sutton home.

Their brewery is named after their address, Clarence Road, and their three-year-old son Frederick.

The pair are now looking to increase their supply of beers from 80 casks a week to 120 casks a week to pubs across South London.

Their beers are already sold in pubs such as The Green Dragon, Skylark, Bull's Head and Ruskin House.

Ms Barlow, who works near Whitehall for a teachers' union, said it was amazing to have their beer selected for Parliament.

She said: "I work in politics in my day job so we thought it would be quite amusing to have our worlds collide a little bit.

"It is just amazing and we are really chuffed. It is absolutely fantastic as we are getting our beer showcased to a new audience and to different people who care about real ale.

"In south London there is a movement now to get more breweries set up which is great as people want to buy real ale and that can only be good news for us."
