Epsom Fencing Club’s star of the future Archie Barnett scaled new heights representing the south-east of England in the British Youth Fencing Championships.

Archie, a pupil at Glyn School in Epsom, finished sixth out of 70 competitors in the U12 boys’ foil competition, and was the top competitor from the region.

The top eight all received medals and automatic entry into next year’s tournament.

Sophia Tacconelli, also from the Epsom club, finished a creditable 24th in the U12 girls’ foil in her first major competition.

Evelyn Frewin finished the U12s epee event in 12th spot, while older sister Gemma finished 11th in the U18s catergory.

The pair, who featured in last week’s Epsom Guardian, are coached by their brother James.
