Government minister, Norman Lamb, helped launch a community project aimed at helping people keep in contact with the elderly.

Yesterday the care and support minister visited Christ Church in Sutton South for the start of Sutton South Hello.

Your Local Guardian:

The project encourages people to better neighbours and support older people stay active and in touch with their local community.

Mr Lamb said: “The Sutton South Hello Project will provide a real lifeline to people who may be lonely and have no one to turn to or talk to.

“Encouraging everyone to say hello more, be good neighbours, and support older people in the Sutton area is a simple yet innovative idea. I wish the project the best of luck.”

Councillor Heather Honour said: “It went very well and we had a huge turnout. Everyone said there was a lovely friendly atmosphere.

Your Local Guardian:

“We had lots of local residents volunteering groups. There was lots of interest in what the volunteering groups were doing. It was a really good start to it.”

Sutton South Hello will also meet each Wednesday afternoon at Christ Church Community Hall for tea, coffee and a chat.
