Two children suffered head injuries and three children suffered bruising following a crash in Purley today.

An adult also suffered facial injuries after two cars collided in Brighton Road at about 1.45pm.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called just after 1.30pm to reports of a collision between two cars.

"We sent a single responder in a car, four ambulance crews and a duty officer. Staff treated six patients, including five children, two of which were treated for head injuries and three for bruising, and an adult patient, who was treated for facial injuries. None of the patients were seirously injured.

"Two of the children and the adult went to Croydon Hospital and three of the chidren went to St Helier Hospital."

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said: "There are six injured parties, all described as having minor injuries and being treated at the scene. Both cars are heavily damaged."

Debris from the crash is being cleared from the road between The Drive and Old Lodge Lane (Reedham Station), with heavy traffic on southbound Purley Road (Purley Cross) and on Northbound to Brighton Road /Marlpit Lane.

Brighton Road remains closed as emergency services deal with the incident. Bus routes 60, 166, 405 and 466 are on diversion.
