Travellers who have set up camp in a popular park say they will not move until they are forced to.
The group of travellers who have set up caravans in Beddington Park were served with an eviction notice on Friday which ordered them to be off the site by noon yesterday.
But the group told council officials they will not leave the site until they are forced to by bailiffs.
A Sutton Council spokesman said: "They said they're hanging around until the bailiffs kick them out so we are working with police to make that happen."
The council could not comment on how long it would be until it is able to send bailiffs to the site, which is in an area off Croydon Road.
