A shocked pedestrian had a lucky escape last night when a piece of concrete narrowly missed them after it fell from a high rise building.
The lump of concrete, almost the size of a brick, from somewhere between the sixth and ninth floors of Chaucer House in Chaucer Gardens, West Sutton, at about 8pm in yesterday's high winds.
Firefighters were called after the piece of debris just avoided hitting a passer-by, then bounced and smashed someone's car windscreen.
The crew from Sutton fire station made the area safe by setting up a cordon around the bottom of the building and have notified Sutton Housing partnership, the building's owner.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "Fortunately no-one was hurt. If it had hit someone this would have been a major incident."
