This is the first e-fit of the suspected child snatcher who attacked a 12-year-old girl on Sunday.

The bald-headed man grabbed the 12-year-old by the wrists and told her to "come with me" as she walked down a path between Meller Close and Beddington Park on at about 5.45pm.

The girl only managed to get away by wriggling out of the hooded top she was wearing and running off.

Police search the alley behind Meller Close

The man, thought to be in his 30s and about 6ft 3in tall, followed the girl from Croydon Road, along Guy Road and over a bridge down into the alley where the attack happened. Police are also investigating whether the man, who has a London accent, was on the same bus as the girl, which dropped her in Croydon Road.

Detective Inspector Sarah Rees, who leads Sutton’s CID, urged anyone who may know this man to come forward. She said:"We want the public’s help to tell us the identity of this man. We also want to hear from anyone who hasn’t yet come forward, who was in this area at this time, to tell us what they saw.

"We are particularly keen to speak to a man with grey hair who was looking out of a window in the Meller Close flats, which overlook Beddington Park, who may have seen the offender.

"Even small amounts of information will help us build a bigger picture of what happened.

"As part of our enquiries, we spoke to members of the travelling community who were at Beddington Park. They were happy to help. The travellers and other members of the public have given us some useful new lines of enquiry."

Police are not linking the incident with another attempted abduction near Smitham Primary School in Coulsden on Thursday, May 9.
