Crystal Palace legend Mark Bright has told the current crop of Eagles players they must make the most of their chance for glory at Wembley.

Bright scored 114 goals in 286 appearances for Palace between 1986 and 1992, playing in their 4-3 two-legged play-off final win against Blackburn Rovers in 1989 and in the FA Cup final at Wembley a year later.

That final is a day he still remembers vividly 23 years on and he has urged Palace's players to secure similar memories when they take on Watford in the Championship play-off final on Monday.

"Considering where Crystal Palace were three years ago, when they looked like they were going out of business, to being on the verge of the Premier League is a great achievement," he said.

"But it won't mean anything now if we don't go up.

"Getting promotion through the play-off final is a totally different feeling to other ways.

"When you walk out in front of that crowd at Wembley, where no doubt Palace fans will have loads of red and blue balloons like they did in 1990, that moment stays with you.

"The players will never forget this experience and you have got to make sure you are the right side of it come the end.

"Even if the game isn't memorable, the occasion will be.

"The crowd will be 80,000 and it will be so loud. It makes the hair stand up on your neck and you get goosepimples.

"When you are on the pitch as a player the noise just makes you run faster and jump higher, but you have to give the crowd the opportunity to cheer."

In his role as ambassador for the Football League's official charity, Prostate Cancer UK, Bright has been at Wembley for both the League One and League Two play-offs this month, where early goals have helped Bradford and Yeovil to promotion.

And Bright insists an similar quick start will be key to Palace's success.

"It shows how important a good start to the game is," he said.

"The Palace lads will have watched those games and been aware of how an early mistake can be costly, but they have to play to a plan and play with confidence.

"I couldn't believe how easy it was for both teams in the two finals so far, this one will be much closer. But I do think Palace will win, either 2-0 or 2-1."
