A bookshop has taken a copy of a book about predatory paedophile Jimmy Savile off its shelves after it upset a customer.

A shopper at Waterstones in Sutton High Street was shocked to find a copy of How's About That Then? The Authorised Biography of Jimmy Savile - The Truth Behind the Legend prominently displayed in the biography section.

The store says it did not mean for the book to be displayed facing out towards the public and has taken it off the shelves after the Sutton Guardian got in contact.

The customer, who asked not to be named, said: "I was shocked to see it. It seems in really bad taste to have it on sale still after all that's come out about him.

"The fact that the book calls him a 'legend' on the front cover seems a bit off for a start."

A spokesman for Waterstones said: "As far as the shop is concerned, they never displayed it facing out. It could have been that a customer was looking at it and replaced it that way.

"It's an old book and it is among thousands on the shelves but, because it has now been brought to light, it has been taken from the shelves."

Jimmy Savile, famous for presenting shows including Top of the Pops and Jim'll Fix It, died in 2011 but has since been accused of hundreds of sexual offences, including rape against children.
