A ‘bee-friendly’ day of action took place on Sunday to help boost the dwindling population of bumble bees.

Friends of the Earth hosted the event as part of the ‘Bee-Cause’ campaign at Deen City Farm with visitors planting bee-friendly wildflower seeds and learning about why the number of bees is in decline.

Loss of habitat is one of the main causes for the decline in the numbers of bumble bees in the UK.

It is estimated it would cost the UK at least £1.8 billion per year to hand pollinate crops.
