Surveying equipment worth £20,000 was stolen in Ashtead on Sunday.
At noon a thief took the equipment from a man in Leatherhead Road, Ashtead, before driving off with it at speed.
Ten minutes later a theodolyte, a precision surveying instrument used to measure angles, was stolen from the side of the nearby M25 roundabout on the Leatherhead By-Pass.
Anyone with information should call Surrey police via 101.
