Police in Croydon have said they will be visiting community leaders today to reassure them in light of the killing of a soldier in Woolwich yesterday.
Superintendent Rob Atkin said, as part of other co-ordinated police action today, they will be speaking to community leaders - including the borough's mosques - who may be concerned about the events of the past 24 hours.
A soldier was killed yesterday by two men who ran him down with a car then attacked him with knives and a meat cleaver in what is being treated as a terrorist incident.
Mosques in Kent and Essex have been attacked overnight.
As a result of the incidents, at a briefing today, Supt Atkin said officers in Croydon would be monitoring social media and other intelligence, and speaking to community leaders to calm any concerns they had.
