An ex-serviceman from Twickenham is flying a flag at half mast in memory of the soldier murdered in Woolwich.
Derek Sturdy, former group tactical support officer in the Royal Air Force Regiment 2, hoisted the royal standard flag above his mechanic garage in Edwin Road, Twickenham.
The owner of Phoenix car repair said he would leave the flag at half mast until the funeral of the soldier who died on Wednesday, May 22.
Mr Sturdy said: “It’s a mark of respect for the man. Saying we have lost this soldier and I want people to know I remember him.
“He didn’t fall in battle but he still needs the respect of a fallen soldier. We are thinking of his family as well, and his work friends.”
It is believed the man killed was wearing a Help for Heroes hooded top, a charity Mr Sturdy collects money for.
Mr Sturdy also raises the Falkland flag for his comrades for 72 days every year, and lowers them to half mast on June 14, the day the conflict ended, before taking them down.
