An "ugly" phone mast which residents were told would be dismantled after six months is still standing tall outstaying its welcome by more than two months.

Marion van Vlierden, 35, lives in Milner Road where the unsightly 22.5m mast sits less than one metre from the bottom of her garden.

She said: "We looked it up and saw that it was only for six months so I thought at least it will be gone by the time the weather turns nice, but it’s still there and nobody seems to care.

"We are not looking to sell at the moment but I think it would have an impact if we were to sell because it’s the first thing you notice.

"It’s one metre behind our garden and it spoils the view from the bedrooms because there is a great big mast in the way.

"I had really hoped it would be gone by the time we were using our garden in the summer."

The mast and generator was installed in the car park of Grenfell Housing Association in Milner Road, South Wimbledon, by phone operator Vodafone on September 5 last year.

The company, who had previously housed a mast on Spur House in Morden Road, were forced to erect a temporary mast after its lease at the building was terminated.

Vodafone were granted a six month licence for the mast, but eight months later it remains.

A spokesperson for Vodafone said they were currently waiting for permission from the landlord to start building a permanent mast on the roof of the Grenfell Housing Association building, instead of the car park, but could not confirm when work to move the mast would take place.

Councillor Andrew Judge, Merton Council cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration said: "We are aware the mast has not been taken down and will investigate the matter and take appropriate action."
