Two adults and two children escaped uninjured after their microwave caught fire.
Three fire engines from Woodside and Croydon fire stations were called to Johnson Road, west Croydon, at 11.15pm.
The adults, believed to be in their thirties, and children had got out of the property before firefighters arrived and were taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.
Crews extinguished the fire which caused 20 per cent damage to the kitchen, and spent about an hour at the scene.
An LAS spokesman said the adults and children were treated for minor smoke inhalation and taken to Croydon University Hospital as a precaution.
