Residents have raised concerns after plans were submitted for a McDonald’s drive-through in Wallington.

The plans include a two-storey restaurant, a drive-through, external seating and 44 car parking spaces in Stafford Road - on a site which used to hold a car-wash and backs on to a residential area.

The consultation closes on June 7 and some residents have written to Sutton’s development and control committee objecting to the proposals with multiple concerns.

A flurry of comments was posted on our website about the plans last week after Joanne Griffiths, from Wallington, wrote a letter to the editor against the plans.

Tracy Macheta, who lives on Stafford Road, said she is objecting to the planning proposals because of increased noise, congestion, litter and that it might encourage people to hang around Stafford Road late at night.

She said: "I think the key thing is at one of the local Beddington and Wallington committee meetings they said £100,000 has been allocated to improve Stafford Road.

"Given there is £100,000 to improve Stafford Road - how is a McDonalds going to improve it?

"The illuminated signs for adverts are going to be very in your face. Litter is also a major concern."

Stuart Kirk who lives close to the proposed McDonalds said: "I think it is ridiculous there are too many takeaways down there as it is.

"There is an obesity epidemic and they are sticking a big fat McDonalds down there."

A council spokesman said: "The application is currently being examined and any representations received will be carefully considered by officers.

"No date has yet been set for the formal determination of the application by the council’s Development Control Committee."
