More than 120 cyclists will ride 60 miles from Thames Ditton to Brighton for charity.

The Capital to Coast cycle ride, which starts from Colets Health and Fitness in St Nicholas Road, was launched with a fancy dress charity fundraising evening, Cycling Through the Ages.

The ride aims to raise more than last year’s total of £15,000 for Norwood and the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Damian Wood, Colets deputy gym manager and organiser of the Capital to Coast ride, said: “Last year 60 people rode 60 miles and raised more than £15,000 for charity. This year we want to double those figures and make an even bigger difference to our chosen charities.

“The great thing about the Capital to Coast ride is that it’s open to all ages, abilities and levels of fitness.”

Ian Tate, Norwood’s business development manager for challenges, said: “Last year Colets represented our biggest team and the largest amount raised in terms of team sponsorship in our 17-year history and the funds raised will make a huge difference to the lives of so many people who rely on the services provided by Norwood and the Down’s Syndrome Association."

Other events being organised around the Capital to Coast event include a 30-mile practice ride and barbecue lunch on Saturday, June 22, a carb feast the night before the cycle and a black tie celebratory evening on Friday, July 5. The Capital to Coast cycle ride takes place on Sunday, June 30.
