Woking and Sam Beare Hospices have received a grant from BBC Children in Need for the second time.

The hospices’ children’s bereavement services have received more than £88,000 to expand community work in the next three years.

Julie Cole, children’s services manager at Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, said: “It’s very rare that anyone receives funding from Children in Need twice, so we’re absolutely delighted.

“I think one of the main reasons we got it again was due to the very moving story about Lynne and her four children, which was featured on the BBC Children in Need programme last year.”

The film showed the support given to one family who had accessed all areas of the hospice services and helped prepare the children for the loss of their mother.

The children were also shown attending special counselling sessions provided by the hospices.

The grant will help fund a bereavement co-ordinator for the children’s services, as well as develop and expand the existing outreach program, which works with schools across Surrey.
