A festival committee has issued a rallying call to their community and Croydon ahead of their summer festival.

Organisers of the South Norwood Community Festival (SNCF) are calling on more volunteers and sponsors to get involved with the festival.

The event, which began last year, finally got the green light from Croydon Council to go ahead with the festival two weeks ago.

It is the first time South Norwood has had such a festival in recent years and after the success of the first event, residents told the group they wanted a bigger and better festival in 2013.

Due to take place on July 7, the festival is free and is taking place at the South Norwood Recreation Ground and will have a host of activities on offer.

Organisers hope to raise money for two projects, The Priory School charity and Tabulah Rasa, a youth arts group.

Stuart Clarke, the chairman of SNCF13, said the festival is fantastic for the community but they need more volunteers and sponsors to come forward and donate towards the running of the festival.

Your Local Guardian:

Organisers of the South Norwood Festival - set to be bigger and better than ever.

He said: “We need volunteers, stewards and stall holders. As well as donations and prizes for raffles from businesses.

“Unlike other groups, we haven’t got any grants towards the festival, so any help we do get would be fantastic.

“This is the second year we are doing it due to popular demand and we want to offer something spectacular for the community.”

Richard Hough, who runs Autoclutch Garage Services and is sponsoring the event, added: “Nothing has ever happened like this before in South Norwood. This is a proper community event and the more people that can help the better.”

Steve O' Connell, Assembly Member for Croydon and Sutton, also said it was great that the festival had finally been given approval by the council.

Anyone who wants to get involved in the festival or donate should email festival@se25.org as soon as possible.
