Two people have been charged with drugs offences after a police sting at a bookmaker’s in Mitcham.

About 20 officers stormed Paddy Power in Upper Green East in Mitcham on Friday, May 31, at about 8pm following intelligence received over a number of months.

Two people have since been charged with possession of cannabis, and bottles of alcohol were also found in the premises which had been brought in by customers - a breach of the premises licence.

Inspector Stuart Buchan, from Merton police, said: "If we have further intelligence in the future to suggest this type behaviour is going on we will carry out further raids when it can be supported.

"Members of staff were supportive of our actions and assisted us in every way they could."

Insp Buchan said they were now in discussion with Paddy Power over their managerial processes.

He added: "The area has been an anti social behaviour hotspot for some considerable time.

"Hopefully this, along with other messages, will reduce the problem."
