A witness appeal has been launched by police after an assault in Weybridge left a man with a broken jaw.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was waiting for a taxi outside the Noir Bar in Heath Road, at about 3am on Sunday, June 2, when an argument between a group of men took place.

The victim helped separate the men involved and, returning to wait for a taxi, was then punched in the side of the face, knocking him unconscious.

The man required hospital treatment for a broken jaw in two places and swelling to the head.

Elmbridge Neighbourhood Inspector David Hollingsworth said: “Weybridge is generally a safe place to live and socialise and incidents of this nature are actually pretty rare on a Friday and Saturday night.

“Surrey Police will not tolerate this kind of violent behaviour in our communities and my neighbourhood officers will be supporting this investigation wherever possible to ensure the perpetrator or perpetrators of this attack are brought to justice.”

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area and remembers seeing either the initial argument or the assault.

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference EL/13/3565, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
