Guests from a galaxy far, far away were among the hundreds of people who turned out to support the Thames Ditton summer fair on Saturday.

The second summer fair, organised by the Thames Ditton High Street Retailers’ Association, saw visitors entertained with music and dance from Thames Ditton Infant School choir, a Rod Stewart tribute act, square dance band the Haylers and Starlight Academy of Dance and Performing Arts.

Spectators were also treated to a finale performance by a zumba act choreographed by Adrienne and Co.

The Star Wars visitors were the talk of the town, with many residents flocking to Darth Vader and two Storm Troopers for photographs and handshakes to remember by.

Dominic Raab, MP for Esher and Walton, paid a visit to the fair and joined the judging panel for the Lime Tree Deli cupcake competition.

Fighting off stiff competition, brothers Ashley, Elliot and Nicholas Ram each won a prize for their creation, with their designs taking inspiration from the Thames.

Fair-goers were also treated to hook the duck, organised by Colets Health and Fitness, were given the opportunity to knit a line with the Thames Ditton Crafters and Paulls Fruit and Vegetables ran hunt the egg and catch a ball to involve the younger visitors.

Even the four-legged friends in the village got dressed up for the occasion, taking part in the hottest dog competition.

Tracy Blatchford, event organiser and owner of Bradley and Brown, said: “Today was one of those magical occasions where the whole community came together to enjoy all the traditions of a typical village fair.

“We are extremely lucky in Thames Ditton to have such a diverse collection of businesses and residents, all of whom made today’s event a huge success.

“We very much hope to make this an annual calendar event which everyone looks forward to and contributes in whichever way they can.”
