Epsom and Ewell Council will help people to assess how they can avoid becoming a "source of food poisoning" for family and friends.

As part of National Food Safety Week, the council’s environmental health officers will be on hand to offer advice and help people with a kitchen checklist to see how highly they score in preparing and cooking food hygienically.

The officers will be available from 10am to 1pm on June 11, at the Wells Centre, in Spa Drive, Epsom, and on June 12 at the Longmead Centre, in Sefton Road, Epsom.

By answering the questions on the checklist about food surfaces, preparation and cooking, participants will be able determine if they are a 'hygiene machine', 'kitchen cavalier' or a 'sloppy joe'.

Councillor Jean Steer, chairwoman of the social committee said, "Most people don't believe the food they cook at home can make them ill, but the meals you prepare for yourself, your family and friends can be a source of food poisoning.

"There are some simple reminders in the checklist which if followed will help people keep safe and avoid food poisoning."
