A peahen, spotted roaming around Sutton and Morden, has been pictured roosting on a car and on the roof of a house overnight.

The bird, which is a female peafowl (not a peacock, which is male), was spotted in Sutton Common and the St Helier Estate yesterday.

Witnesses photographed the grey and white bird in a number of locations including standing on a car in Kingsbridge Road, walking around Sutton Common Road and in Garendon Road.

It is believed the animal roosted on a roof in Reigate Avenue overnight but had flown away this morning.

People also claim to have spotted a peacock in the area fuelling speculation that the animals had been dumped as a pair.

The Riverside Animal Rescue Centre, based in Beddington, has been told about the runaway bird but says it has difficulty in catching it as its wings have not been clipped.
