A man whose brother lost his fight with cancer six months after being diagnosed with Lymphoma has held a family fundraiser in his memory.

Ashley Christopher of Thornton Heath, organised the family fun day in honour of his brother Andrew, 32, who died from the disease on May 30 last year.

The 24-year-old also used the event held at Shirley High School on Saturday, June 1, to raise money for the Lymphoma Association, a charity that supports people affected by lymphoma.

As well as food stalls, a Fifa Xbox tournament, face painting and a bouncy castle, activities at the event included an egg and spoon race, giant jenga and monopoly.

Remembering the dad-of-five, who was nicknamed Fonzi, Mr Christopher said: "We were very close, even though we didn't grow up together I was exactly like him. It was very sudden when he died, I didn't think it was going to be so soon.

"After he died I realised I had never heard of this type of cancer. I started doing my own research and found out it was the fifth most common type of cancer."

Mr Christopher decided to hold the event after the lives of his friends also became touched by the disease, and has so far raised over £500 for the Lymphoma Association.

He added: "I only know about lymphoma because my brother was diagnosed with the disease.

"I hope this event will be held annually in Fonzi's name but will raise money to help others whose lives are affected by this type of cancer."
