Police managed to talk a woman down from a bridge in the early hours of Saturday.

Mole Valley Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Rundle said the local team was called the bridge over River Mole in Leatherhead because of concerns the woman was putting herself in danger.

Surrey Fire and Rescue sent two boats and a fire engine to the scene at about 3.30am on Saturday, June 8.

Firefighters from Leatherhead went on stand-by in Bridge Street with water rescue equipment.

Insp Rundle said: "Officers were able to enter into a dialogue with the female and she was safely returned to the pavement by the side of the bridge."

The woman was taken to hospital for checks and there is no ongoing police investigation.

He said: "We are there obviously to pursue criminality but also to keep people safe in times of crisis and offer what support we can."
