Two teenagers have been bailed in connection with a man who was found dead in a derelict house fire last Monday.

A 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of arson and manslaughter on Saturday.

About 35 firefighters were called to the blaze at The Waldrons, near Davenant Road at 2.45pm last week.

Officers said they faced challenging conditions in the house, which is the former base of the Croydon Sea Cadets, as they tried to bring the fire under control.

Police said they believe the man is a Polish national but he has yet to be formally identified and the cause of the fire has yet to be explained.

The homicide and serious crime command are investigating the incident after police confirmed the death was being treated as suspicious on Friday.

In 2011 the house was badly damaged by fire on New Year’s Eve which saw the roof collapse.
