The future of the environment is in residents hands following the launch of a consultation.

Councillors on the borough's environment and neighbourhoods committee on Thursday, June 13, agreed to give residents their say on meeting environmental targets for the next 40 years.

A One Planet workshop in January this year brought together community groups and businesses from across the borough to agree upon programme which is now being put out for general consultation before the targets are agreed in October.

Councillor Jill Whitehead, chair of Sutton Council's environment and neighbourhoods committee, said: "We are reaffirming our commitment to creating a cleaner, greener borough.

"We are aware that there are fewer resources at the moment and that our aspirations have to be realistic.

"So we are asking everyone to join us in the challenge of working together to set and achieve these new challenging but realistic targets."
