Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire at a charity, which helps children with brain injury and disabilities in Tadworth.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the kitchen at the Children's Trust in Tadworth Court, at about 1.30pm on Friday.
An Epsom fire station spokesman said they used a hose reel to damp down the area and a ventilation fan to get rid of smoke.
A Children's Trust spokeswoman said: "We had a minor fire in the kitchen of one of our residential buildings which was accidentally caused by a parent who was doing some cooking.
"It was safely extinguished before the fire brigade arrived."
She said they quickly evacuated the building and called the fire brigade, adding: "The firefighters were tremendously helpful in confirming that the building was safe to re-enter."
