A charity providing people with housing support and care is holding a free lecture on how people can achieve a happy life later on.

Nonsuch Abbeyfield will hold its inaugural Noel Bibby lecture on July 4, in Cheam, Mulgrave Road, with the guest speaker being Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Burstow.

The free lecture will explore how people can achieve a happy and comfortable life as they enter older age.

Graham Walker, chairman of Nonsuch Abbeyfield said: “We are delighted that Paul Burstow has agreed to deliver our first Noel Bibby lecture.

“As a former minister for care services and a long-time advocate for older people, Paul’s views on this subject are highly relevant.

“Nonsuch Abbeyfield is currently planning significant investments in facilities to serve the next few generations older people, so we are only too well aware of the numerous and complex uncertainties that have to be addressed.”

The lecture has been made possible because of a legacy from the estate of Noel Bibby, a former Cheam resident, whose efforts led to the creation of Nonsuch Abbeyfield.

He and his first wife Marjorie were among a small group of individuals who wanted to do something practical to serve the needs of the older and lonely people in the community.

Nearly forty years later that initiative is still going strong, with nearly 100 volunteers regularly supporting the accommodation and companionship needs of older people within their local community.

Admittance to the lecture is free but it is a ticket only event so you will need to register your interest in attending.
