A dispersal order that helped combat crime and anti-social behaviour in Thornton Heath Recreation Ground has been reintroduced.

The Safer Croydon Partnership is keen to ensure gangs do not stop the community from enjoying the park and aim to reduce robberies.

The new six-month order started on June 25, and runs until Wednesday December 25.

The boundaries are Braemar Avenue, Melfort Road, Brook Road, Quadrant Road, Richmond Road and Bridport Road.

Cabinet member for community safety, Councillor Simon Hoar, said: "Groups of youths have been using this green space to drink and smoke drugs recently, which has led to an increase in antisocial behaviour.

"The public felt intimidated by them, so we have reintroduced the dispersal zone to help combat the crime and to keep the recreation ground safe for people to enjoy."
