Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Hardy officially opened St Peter's primary school fair on Saturday.

The dancer kicked started the event, which included the grand opening of a building expansion project at the school.

The new building will allow the school in Normanton Road, South Croydon, to increase its intake from 210 to 420 pupils.

Nearly 500 people including retired teachers and past pupils attended the family fun day which included a performance from a local dance school and activities such as splat the teacher and a football skills station.

Organised by St Peter's School Association (SPSA) for parents and children, the event raised £4,000 for the SPSA's playground appeal.

The money will be used to fund new playground equipment.

Headteacher Paul Thomas said: "It was a special day for everyone associated with the school past and present, and it was great to see so many of people there to share it."
