Croydon's disabled athletes triumphed for the fourth year in a row at the London Youth Games.

The borough won gold in the male and female events at Mile End last Tuesday, repeating their performance in the disability swimming competitions 12 days earlier.

Croydon won both male and female disability athletics titles, with the boys team winning seven gold, seven silver and two bronze medals and the girls winning nine gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

Team manager Pearl Sethna said: "The team pulled out all the stops. The quality of competition was better than ever this year.

"There were far more athletes competing this year. We are lucky to be well funded in Croydon."

Councillor Sara Bashford, who represents the council on the board of the games said: "Last year's Paralympic Games inspired a new passion for disabled sport and it's great to see so many Paralympians in the making here in Croydon."
