The Weybridge Society has written to the chief executive of Elmbridge Council against the Morrisons application being heard this month.

The society said the new application for a supermarket at the former Focus DIY store in Monument Hill would put pressure on councillors to approve it, in case the previously rejected application was approved on appeal.

Dave Arnold, chairman of the Weybridge Society, said the society would welcome the supermarket to the site, which needs the development, but said the proposal was “hugely significant” because it impacted on the street scene and surrounding conservation area.

The society said the store would greatly increase traffic and congestion and, if approved, would require a new roundabout in Monument Hill and the removal of a grassed area.

The resubmitted application is due to be discussed on July 16.
