Votes are streaming in for environmental projects which have been designed to improve the borough.

A community cinema, a green gym and a toolbank library are three of the eight projects which have reached the semi-final of the Sutton Community Challenge, a competition to help create stronger, healthier and greener communities.

The projects will be promoted through the Community Challenge Roadshow which began on 29 June at the Local Enterprise Day in Sutton High Street and will continue at Carshalton Charter Fair, Hackbridge Carnival (6 July) and Wallington Farmers Market (13 July).

The two winning projects will be announced at the Carshalton Environmental Fair on August 26 and they will receive intensive development and fundraising support from BioRegional.

Sue Riddlestone, chief executive of BioRegional, said "We’re delighted to be working with passionate community groups to enable them to bring to life their own projects that help build a sustainable Sutton.

"All of these practical projects are great and I’d find it hard to choose between them as they will all make Sutton a better place to live. Do vote for the one you love the most."

Entries need to improve Sutton’s environment and green spaces, help residents reduce their ecological footprint and contribute to at least one of the ten principles of One Planet Living.

Details of the eight projects can be found at the One Planet Sutton website -oneplanetsutton.org/communitychallenge.
