A free service which helps disabled people enjoy the town centre celebrated being able to open for an extra day each week.

Sutton Shopmobility allows people with reduced mobility, either through disability or injury, to use electric scooters in the town centre.

Up until this week it was only open from Tuesday to Saturday but, thanks to extra funding, Sutton Shopmobility is now open on Mondays as well.

The service celebrated the boost by inviting Sutton Mayor Councillor Sean Brennan to have a go on one of its scooters.

Amanda Beck manager of Sutton Shopmobility, said; "We made an application to the Sutton Community Fund at the start of the year and we were successful.

"When we surveyed customer feedback one thing that came up again and again was that it would be useful if we were open an extra day - so we're now open on Mondays.

"It has also paid for a bit more publicity so that people know we're here, we've painted the storage area and we now have more of a demonstration area."

Sutton Shopmobility is based on the third floor of the St Nicholas Centre car park in Sutton town centre. The service is available to anyone who has mobility needs, not just those with blue badges.
