A big-hearted quartet crossed the finish line at the British Grand Prix circuit last week after cycling from Belgium to raise more than £10,000 for a hospice.

The team of four, named Four Charlie after their friend Charlie Dodson, 36, who died in January, did a lap of the Belgium Grand Prix circuit to kick off their 400-mile cycle ride on Monday.

Darrell Hughes, his brother Kieron Hughes, Paul Taylor and Jon Wilkins, aged 30 to 36, finished in style at Silverstone on Thursday, the day before first practice for the grand prix.

Mr Wilkins said: "Charlie was with us every step of the way. He would probably be laughing at us and would have loved the laps at Silverstone.

"Although we were doing it for the hospice, it was a tribute to him, to stay connected."

Mr Dodson, from Cheam, used to manage the Ewell office of property agent Eastons and the friends met each other through work.

The men decided on the challenge because Mr Dodson went to grand prix in Belgium and Britain last year and was a keen cyclist.

The money will go to St Raphael's Hospice where he spent the last few months of his life after having battled a brain tumour for two years.

During the bike ride through Belgium, Holland and the UK, the team had a ‘little crash’ and moments when they were completely lost, but got just one puncture.

Mr Wilkins said: "The highs and lows started in Spa, Belgium, because the hills were enormous. It’s difficult to process it all. I can’t believe we have done it. Some people have been so generous."
