Police are searching for a conman who tricked people out of £110 by convincing them his shop was closing down and he had cheep booze to sell.

Four victims gave the man a total of £110 on Saturday 29 June after he approached staff at businesses in Stonecot Hill, North Cheam.

He told them that the SK Supermarket in Epsom Road, was going out of business and he had cheap alcohol for sale.

After taking one victim to SK Supermarket, He told him to wait in the alleyway next to the store whilst he collected the drink but he never returned.

The victim waited for 20-30 minutes before he decided ask supermarket staff who denied they were closing or selling stock from the back door.

Sutton’s Licensing Sergeant John Withersby urged pubs, off licences, convenience stores and other businesses to be vigilant and to report any such scams to police.

The suspect is described as of Asian appearance, aged 45-50 and 5ft 8in tall. He has stubble on his chin and receding black hair.
