A cyclist was hit by a lorry this morning.

The front wheel of the bike was trapped under the HGV in Garratt Lane, Earlsfield, close to Earlsfield Station.

Police officers driving past at the time were flagged down by the cyclist at about 10.30am this morning.

British Transport Police officers also attended the scene.

An ambulance was not called, but the cyclist was driven to hospital by a friend.

The incident provoked Tweets from cycling campaigners for safer roads and clamp-downs on Lorries.

Jools Walker, presenter of TV programme The Cycle Show, wrote: "This is an all too familiar & ridiculous scene on LDN's roads with cyclists.

"The cycle path that runs along Garratt Lane is pretty much non-existent. What's it gonna take?!

"Please @MayorofLondon - when will real action be taken for the safety of cyclists in London?"
