A rock band is on the cusp of performing in front of thousands after they reached the final of a singing competition.

Brightlight City, who are regular performers at Croydon’s Scream Lounge, have reached the final of Jamie Oliver’s Summer Jam competition beating 800 other bands.

The band is made up of brothers Jamie and Justin Giarraputo, from Epsom, Joe Edwards and Dan Stubberfield from Carshalton and Australian Jono Staunton.

Last weekend the band filmed a video shoot which will see their video go to the public vote against the two other finalists.

The winner will get to play at The Big Feastival, a music festival set up by chef Jamie Oliver and Blur’s Alex James where it is expected more than 15,000 will attend.

Jamie Giarraputo, 28, said he was chuffed at how far the band has gone in the competition.

He said: “We sent out a few tracks more in hope than anything else but we got contacted by his agent to say he really liked it and could he put it on his FoodTube channel which has more than one million subscribers.

“We then got another phone call saying out of 800 bands we have been chosen to be in the final three. The exposure we could get is fantastic.

“We have done a lot of gigs at Scream Lounge in Croydon where our friends can come and see us so it would be great if we could make it through the final so they can see us on the big stage.”
