Hundreds of people reconnected with nature in the sunshine at an event to celebrate the great outdoors on Saturday.

A range of fun and educational activities were on offer during the community event in Lloyd Park, which aimed to help people reconnect with nature.

The event, organised by the council's green spaces team and the Croydon Youth Forest Project, was inspired by the National Trust's publication '50 things to do before you are 11 and 3/4.'

Displays and activities included bush craft skills, bee-keeping, leather-working and countryside crafts, as well as demonstrations by Croydon District Scouting.

There were also performances of folk music by local band Homebrood and visitors got the chance to try out disc golf, nature walks, storytelling and face painting.

Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for highways and environmental services said: “It was a fantastic summer’s day and although it was on the warm side, visitors of all ages and tastes enjoyed a wealth of outdoor pursuits.

“We’ve already had lots of positive reaction from residents who want to see the event return next year. Thanks to everyone who made the day such an outstanding success.”
