A doctor who abducted her daughter after the breakdown of her marriage has been struck off the medical register.

Dr Humma Dar fled from her home in Camborne Road, Morden, to Pakistan with her daughter Aamina following her marriage break-up.

Her ex-husband Dr Safraz Khan, from Ballards Way, Croydon, was granted custody of Aamina, who turned eight last week, following a lengthy custody battle that allowed his wife to see their daughter three weekends a month.

But after agreeing to let Aamina visit her mother for a longer period over the summer holiday, they suddenly disappeared and her car was missing.

Today, the panel at a fitness to practise hearing the panel decided the "serious and deplorable nature" of Dr Dar's misconduct meant her fitness to practise was impaired and their only option was to remove her name from the medical register.

The mother and daughter are known by the Home Office to have travelled to Pakistan via Abu Dhabi.

The panel decided Dr Dar, who failed to attend and was not represented at the hearing in Manchester, should be made subject of an immediate order, which will take effect 28 days from when written notice of their decision is served upon her.

Professor Michael Whitehouse, panel chairman said: "The Panel considers that Dr Dar has shown a blatant disregard for the system of registration by failing to keep her contact details up to date with the GMC and actively seeking to conceal her whereabouts from the UK and Pakistani authorities.

"She has not contacted the GMC or any other authority at any time, nor has she acknowledged her breach of the Court Order.

"In the serious circumstances of this case, the Panel has determined that the wider public interest can only be satisfactorily protected by erasing Dr Dar’s name from the medical register."
