One of the borough's most hysterical events takes place in a fortnight as an army of sumo wrestlers descend on Battersea Park for the annual Sumo Run.

The 5km event will see hundreds of runners dressed in giant inflatable sumo suits run, walk or wobble around the course on Sunday July 28.

A host of activities will be available to keep spectators and supporters entertained including the ‘sumonut-shy’ (with coconuts painted to look like Sumos), sumo face painting, a fancy dress competition and a medal for every participant.

The fees cover the cost of the giant inflatable sumo suits which can be kept by the runner once the race is over.

• Fundraising Place - pay a £39 registration fee and pledge to raise a minimum of £200 for Link.

• Self-Funding Place - pay a £79 registration fee to cover the full balance of the event and optionally fundraise what you can for Link, with no minimum amount.

All funds raised go towards Link Community Development - a charity that works to improve the quality of education for children in sub-Saharan Africa.

Mike Zywina, fundraising manager at Link said: "We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of sign ups and are hoping that our new self-funding package will prove to be popular with late entrants.

"The Sumo Run is a great way to have a laugh with friends and family, and at the same time raise money for a good cause."

Link Community Development believes that quality education is achievable but sadly many obstacles stand in the way, making it all too rare.

Link works at all levels of the education system - from a government level through to local communities - to identify and remove these obstacles and help to improve the quality of education for children in sub-Saharan Africa.

To enter the race, participants simply register online at www.sumorun.com and choose the package which suits their needs.
