Traffic has hit "total gridlock" in Worcester Park after roadworks appeared to repair a manhole cover.
Businesses have said it is a "diabolical" situation, and one man said it is the worst he has ever seen it.
Ross Nelson, owner of Ross Fruiterers on Central Road, said: "The road is gridlocked, you would struggle to get a bike down here.
"I've just spoke to a bus driver and he said it took him two hours to get from North Cheam to Central Road. It's unbelievable.
"There are always roadworks down this way, they don't finish one before they start the next."
Thames Water announced last week it needs to repair a manhole cover and "congestion" would "continue into the week".
