Residents have transformed a neglected grassy scrub into a flourishing community garden.
Gardening celebrtiy Tom Hart-Dyke made an appearance at the official opening of the gardens in Birdhurst Avenue, South Croydon.
The product of a year of hard work, the Japanese-style Birdhurst Community Garden now boasts flowers, heather, a rockery, a herb garden and an experimental gardening patch for kids.
Neighbours received a £5,000 grant from Croydon Council to complete the makeover.
