McDonald's staff, councillors and police officers joined forces to clear up litter this week.

Workers from branches in St John's Hill, Battersea, and Mitcham Lane, Tooting, as well as 15 businesses, visited areas notorious for litter dropping.

A total of 80 people joined in the Love Where You Live events, including Councillor Billi Randall and Councillor Rex Osborn.

Northcote Ward councillors Councillor Peter Dawson, Councillor Martin Johnson and Councillor Jenny Browne also took part.

Teams collected 100 bags of litter, with the Wandsworth Council truck collecting larger items.

The events aimed to encourage the community to take responsibility for keeping the neighbourhood litter free.

Kalpesh Patel, McDonald's franchisee, said: "It was inspiring to see members of the community join forces to take action on litter that damages our environment.

"It's vital that we all do our bit to tackle the issue - everyone from local businesses, to the residents of Clapham Junction and Tooting should make a commitment to helping protect the local environment."

McDonald's staff at both restaurants also regularly patrol streets three times a day to collect discarded litter.
