A giant version of the newest addition to the classic board game Monopoly arrived at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home this week.

The Cat's arrival follows a Facebook survey where members from 185 countries were asked which new piece they wanted and which piece they wanted to oust.

Voters overwhelmingly opted for the Cat, possibly to give the might Dog a rival, but the formerly much-loved but slightly sterile Iron was the piece to lose its status.

This week board game giant Hasbro, which makes the property trading game, has sent the giant Cat around some of the capital's most famous landmarks including the Battersea-based charity.

Eric Nyman, senior vice president for Hasbro Gaming, said: "We know that cat lovers around the world will be happy to welcome the new cat token into the Monopoly game.

"While we're a bit sad to see the iron go, the cat token is a fantastic choice by the fans and we have no doubt it will become just as iconic as the original tokens."

The metal moggy will now join the wheelbarrow, battleship, racecar, thimble, Scottie dog, and top hat as the options players can choose from.

Previously retired tokens include a lantern, a purse, a rocking horse and a cannon.
