The county council leader was among the first people to try out a newly opened outdoor gym in a park near Stoneleigh.

Surrey County Council leader Councillor David Hodge visited the gym on Thursday, August 1, after the Friends of Shadbolt Park received £18,000 from the council’s Community Improvements Fund.

Coun Hodge said: "This gym will encourage people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels to exercise and it’s a great example of the county council joining together with residents to make Surrey an even better place to live.

"I’m delighted that people will be able to work on their fitness for free instead of joining a gym while getting some fresh air at the same time and it would be great to see even more of these facilities across the county."

The gym features eight pieces of fitness equipment including a cross trainer, an exercise bike and a bench for sit-ups.

Nearly 30 projects have benefited since Coun Hodge launched the fund in 2011 to help residents improve their areas.
