Pet owners can have their dogs microchipped for free as part of a joint initiative run by police and Sutton Housing Partnership.

A team will be in Sutton High Street outside Waterstone's from 11am to 3pm on Thursday, August 15.

The microchipping will be carried out by the Beddington Park-based Riverside Animal Centre and funded by the Dogs Trust.

The plan is to help pet owners comply with new rules that mean all dogs have to be microchipped by 2016.

Typically, microchipping a dog can cost £20 to £30.
